It is with a constantly recurring sense of thankfulness for all the blessings I have received through the teachings of Christian Science, that I send this brief account of an experience which in itself is sufficient to prove what can be accomplished by following the teachings of our revered Leader as given in that wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

Through occasional conversations with a lady in Chicago, I attended service one Sunday morning in First Church of that city. I was so impressed with the simplicity of what I saw and heard, that it appealed to my inner consciousness, and although I had been until that time a communicant and regular attendant of another church, I have since become an adherent of the Christian Science faith and have no desire for any other teaching than is to be found in the Bible, and in Mrs. Eddy's writings. It was not physical sickness which took me to that church, but a mental hunger for something that I did not find in the church I had attended from my youth up. In Christian Science I found that for which I was seeking—a fortifying strength, a satisfying rest and happiness; a better knowledge of the Master, Christ Jesus, and his teaching and example.

It was two or three years after I began to learn of the beauties of Christian Science that I was taken seriously ill with an eruptive disease and rheumatism. I felt the first symptoms of the eruption on a Friday, and for three days the disease grew steadily worse. I was terribly disfigured, the face and ears discolored and swollen, and both eyes were closed. My appearance was so bad that no one was allowed to see me. A faithful practitioner worked steadily for five hours on the Sunday night following, and all signs of the disease were gone in about one week. My face became normal and there was no disfigurement of any kind. No drugs or lotions of any kind were used, and although my family entreated me to call on materia medica, I knew that what God could not do, could not be done. My recovery from this attack was wonderful and rapid, but, just as I was about healed, rheumatism set in. This seemed to require a great deal of attention and did not yield readily. The mental conditions surrounding me were not in accord with Christian Science, and this seemingly made the work all the harder.
