In the winter of 1909-10, while in extreme pain prior to the birth of a child, a Christian Science practitioner was called in. After her arrival the severe pain ceased—as my husband expressed it, the effect of the truth declared was "like oil on the troubled waters." The birth was almost painless, and the child was a fine healthy girl. It was my first experience of this kind, and owing to my age all my friends had predicted that I would not survive. I can never be grateful enough for the strength and comfort which Christian Science has brought me when so-called material law seemed to assert itself, but I have gained a confidence in Truth which can never be taken away.
