I have always been a lover of the Bible, and as a result engaged actively in church work, and was a Sunday school superintendent for ten or twelve years. I had however such poor health that I finally got discontented and discouraged and gave up church and church work, but I asked God to help me. This was all my prayer until Christian Science found me. Through frequent visits to schoolmates of my former days, who are now Christian Scientists, I was induced to investigate this teaching. I bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, also the Quarterly, and began to study. My first impressions were that it was only one who was very near to God who could have written such a book. My health began to improve, my business began to improve, I was bettered in every way. Then one by one I procured Mrs. Eddy's other writings, until I have nearly all, including the Concordance to Science and Health. I also take the Monitor

It is now about seven years since I began to study, and I have read little else. How to prove the allness of God, good, in the face of seeming evil was a difficult problem for about five years; then, as I began to understand God's spiritual creation and saw that man must be spiritual and perfect, thought was enlightened, and a higher consciousness reached. It was like opening the door to the spiritual universe, where "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals" (Science and Health, p. 13). I like to dwell on the thought of a spiritual universe pure, perfect, sinless, without limitation or monopoly, and desire most the companionship of those whose consciousness has ascended to the Father.

I have seen tribulations many, and poor comforters were all my former beliefs until Christian Science found me, but now by God's blessing, through the sublime teaching of Mrs. Eddy the crooked places are being made straight and the rough places plain. My father had passed away from what the doctors termed paralysis, and I was living in dread of the same fate. I am doing a traveling business with a team of horses, and one day, a few years ago, while driving along the road, I was suddenly seized with terrible distress in the head, and fearing that I might die in the wagon I got out and walked alongside until I was recovered sufficiently to resume my work. I knew little or nothing of Christian Science at that time, but since taking up the study of it these fears have all left me, and I can now do my work without fear or worry. I am far from any church, but I am studying Christian Science alone with God, whom I am learning to know as divine Principle.
