I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science...
I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and my family. I had been an invalid for eleven years, and had taken all kinds of medicine, but got no relief. My husband brought me South in 1905, and I was operated on in a hospital in January, 1906, and again in May, 1908, but I only became worse. I was in so much pain that I longed for death. I could not sleep unless I took an opiate, and my life seemed a burden, so that many times I thought to end it all. I belonged to a church and thought I knew the Bible, but I did not until I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." How I bless the day it was laid in my hands and I found the glorious truth of being.
Before this truth came to me, my husband took me out West in 1909, thinking the climate would do me good; but I got worse and had lung trouble and a growth in my side. The doctors in the West said I had only two months to live. I was distracted many times from the suffering, as I also had a malignant growth on my foot. I had the best doctors we could get, but no hope was given, so we left Texas, and I came home to die.
While we were waiting for our train at Houston, Texas, a lady came up to where I was lying and asked me if I had ever heard of Christian Science. She tried to tell me about God, but I told her God did not want to have anything to do with me, or He would not let me suffer as I did. She gave me some papers to read, and while I was on the train I read them. Oh, what a joy, for when I had finished I went to sleep, and it was the best night's rest I ever had! It gave me hope, and as soon as we arrived at Montgomery, Alabama, I looked up a Christian Science reading-room. God bless the ladies who met there that day, for they were very kind and explained Christian Science to me.
