On the afternoon of May 18, 1911, I was taken very ill with severe pains in the right side of the abdomen, which became so intense that I was compelled to go home. My wife and myself being Christian Scientists, she at once telephoned for a practitioner, who gave me treatment and remained with me several hours. On the 20th she remained all night, as during these two days and nights my distress had been very great. The following day my wife called in a physician for the purpose of diagnosis, and his report was that I had appendicitis and according to materia medica was in an extremely critical condition; the next day he reported that peritonitis had developed. I kept steadily on with Christian Science treatment, taking no medicine whatsoever, and on the 24th I was able to sit up for several hours. On the 30th I took an automobile ride to a distant town, and on June 8 returned to business. Considering that I am seventy-one years of age, my recovery is not only remarkable, but very gratifying to myself and family. My desire is to prove my gratitude rather than tell it, thus to show that I really am grateful to God, also to Mrs. Eddy and to all who have so kindly helped me.
