In a recent issue there was published a communication which undertakes to discredit the teaching of Christian Science by comparing quotations from the Bible and the Christian Science text-book. First in line are the following:

"The Bible says: 'In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.' The 'key' says, 'There is no matter.' The only evidence of a material universe is gathered from the five personal senses. This evidence Christian Science has dethroned."

There is no conflict whatever between these two statements. Christian Science does not deny that "in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth," but insists that the creation of God was "after his kind," partook of His nature, in keeping with the scientific truism that "like begets like." Christian Science agrees with the Scriptural declaration, "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good;" also, "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them," and "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him." God is not matter but Spirit, hence man in God's image and likeness is not material, but spiritual. Christian Science holds steadfastly to this fundamental proposition of spiritual truth.
