To say that Christian Science enables one to succeed and...
Freedom
To say that Christian Science enables one to succeed and be comfortable while yet pursuing a wrong course, is the very opposite of the truth. If one is dishonest in business or in any way, to that extent he shuts himself out from the healing influence of Christian Science. On page 453 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says: "Honesty is spiritual power. Dishonesty is human weakness, which forfeits divine help." And on page 446 we read: "A wrong motive involves defeat. In the Science of Mind-healing, it is imperative to be honest, for victory rests on the side of immutable right."
It is coming to be recognized in business circles that those who study Christian Science are thereby quickened into a higher sense of business honesty and fair dealing. No one can hope to be healed who is not willing to reform his life and to endeavor to correct all wrong thinking and doing. One of the great blessings which Christian Science is bringing to humanity is the raising of the standard of business morals.
"Healthy" and "holy" are derived from the same word, and these qualities in man cannot be separated. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 404): "Healing the sick and reforming the sinner are one and the same thing in Christian Science." Many a man has been lifted out of failure and poverty by learning in Christian Science that power belongs, not to trickery or dishonesty, but to good, to honesty and justice. "The burdens of the working men" were known to Jesus of Nazareth, and he said: "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Christian Science appeals to all classes and conditions of men, and will ultimately save mankind from the injustice which our critic deplores.
