I wish to express my sincere gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. During my childhood and schooldays I was considered delicate, my education being much interrupted by periods of ill health. On leaving school, instead of improving my health became worse, and for the next ten years I was unable to take up any business. Several of those years I had to winter abroad; if I did not do so, I was largely confined to the house, and frequently to bed during the worst weather.

I was continually taking tonics, without apparent benefit. I also suffered severely from a catarrhal affection which impaired my hearing. I consulted and was treated by specialists in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London, having several operations without obtaining relief. It was by the advice of these specialists that I wintered abroad, which was the only hope they gave me of preventing my hearing from becoming worse; but they held out no hope of there ever being any improvement. All were agreed that to winter in this damp climate would be very bad for me, and this was the case until I came to Christian Science. In all these years of bondage to sickness and drugs, I never knew what it was, even at my best, to be entirely free from a feeling of weakness. I also frequently suffered from depression, as there seemed nothing to look forward to but a life of enforced idleness and uselessness.

It was at this time, when all seemed so dark, that Christian Science was brought to my notice. Although somewhat skeptical, I decided to give it a fair trial, and asked for treatment from a practitioner. I need only say that this was over five years ago, and since then I have never had a day in bed, or even been confined to the house. I have been living entirely in this country during the last four years, and have been out and about in all sorts of weather, and all this time have been entirely free from any symptoms of illness. Although I cannot yet say that all difficulty in hearing has been overcome, I certainly hear decidedly better than I did five years ago. About four years ago I had a threatened return of abscess in the facial bones, which had been feared by my doctors, but on this occasion it was overcome in a few days by Christian Science treatment, and I was able all the time to be about my work. Within a short time of my first treatment I lost all desire for tobacco and stimulants.
