For many years I was a sufferer from organic diseases,...
For many years I was a sufferer from organic diseases, the kidneys, bladder, stomach, heart, and bowels being involved; in fact, there seemed to be no soundness from head to foot. Extreme nervousness, sleeplessness, and inability to eat the simplest food without its causing great suffering, brought me to the verge of despair, for neither medicine, mineral waters, mountain air, nor aught else brought any relief. When I had given up all hope of ever being well again, the daughter of our family physician suggested that I try Christian Science, and brought me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" that I might investigate its teachings. This copy had been sent to our library by a lady in Dallas, Texas, and was the only one in our town.
After reading the text-book for two weeks, I wrote to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, and was healed. The acute stomach trouble disappeared with the first treatment, and from that day to the present I have eaten anything which I have desired. One by one the other ills disappeared, but the healing was rather slow, for there had to be a great emptying of old beliefs before I could grasp the truth as taught by Mrs. Eddy, and her book has surely been a veritable key to me. A copy of Science and Health was purchased, and as my husband often read to me at night, he, too, soon found relief from many ailments and business worries, and the continued study led to his giving up his business as a merchant and devoting himself to the work of preaching the gospel and healing the sick.
We are witnesses to the truth that Christian Science does heal the sick and give sight to the blind. One case of blindness that has been healed was that of a little boy who had been blind two years, the other a girl of twelve years. We have had many proofs of God's power to heal, both for ourselves and for others, and our hearts are filled with love to God and gratitude to dear Mrs. Eddy for expressing this truth of being to mankind.
