About three years ago, on alighting from a street-car, I...
About three years ago, on alighting from a street-car, was thrown thrown so heavily to the pavement as to tear my clothing and to break the enamel on a watch-charm I was wearing. As I arose I found that my arm was painfully hurt. I had about a half block to walk to my home, and found it difficult to get there. I walked upstairs, called my wife, who was talking to a Christian Science friend, got my coat off, and then fainted. On regaining consciousness I found both my wife and friend by my side, declaring the truth for me. The question then came to me as to whether I should be treated in Christian Science, or have medical attention, as I was carrying accident insurance in two companies and wanted to secure the money due me on account of the accident.
It was a hard struggle for me, but finally about seven o'clock I came to a decision and asked my wife to telephone to a Christian Science practitioner for teatment. I did not get to sleep till about midnight, when my wife read to me from Science and Health, but I slept till morning. In the morning I could not lift my hand to my head or use my fingers. I went to the practitioner and took treatment for two weeks, and was able to attend to my business all the time. I then started on a two-months trip, and at one of my stops I met a physician whose wife was interested in Christian Science. He asked me why I favored my left arm, and I told him of my fall and that I had been healed by Christian Science. He asked me to let him look at my arm, so we went to his room and he examined my elbow. He said that the injury had been of a very serious nature, but that the ligaments which had been torn from their place were all right. He intimated that I might have had a stiff arm under medical teatment.
My arm was and is now as perfect as ever, and I am indeed grateful to God for this proof of Truth's power, and to Mrs. Eddy for giving this wonderful blessing to the world.—W. H. Berteaux, Tropico, Cal.
