AMONG THE CHURCHES

Through the courtesy of our English friends we have been favored with a copy of the loyal and dutiful address of the Christian Science churches and societies in the empire presented to their most gracious Majesties King George V and Queen Mary, and also of the letter sent in response.

"May it please your Majesties: We, the members of the following Christian Science churches and societies in these islands and in your Majesties' dominions across the seas, rejoice in offering our humble and loyal congratulations on the auspicious occasion of your Majesties' coronation, and in conveying to your Majesties our loving assurance that our hearts unite with those of all loyal subjects in the prayer that every blessing of divine Love may rest upon your Majesties and upon each member of the royal house.

"Your people have already had evidences, whereof to be grateful, concerning your Majesties' attitude toward the great questions of the day, both social and religious, and we feel that your Majesties' recognition of the vital importance of raising the standards of health and of moral and religious integrity is deeply appreciated by all, and is an inspiration and encouragement to those who are striving to make the ideal practical in daily life. We recognize that the empire is passing through an important transitional state of development, and that great opportunities for good are arising in promotion of the sanctity of home life, education, wider political justice, amelioration of social conditions, the abolition of war, and a greater spiritual awakening. And we pray God that your Majesties may have the joy of seeing the happy fruition of these movements, and that the brotherhood of man, involving universal peace, may be so established during your reign that the psalmist's prophecy may be abundantly realized: 'Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
