From the time I was ten years old I suffered from spasms of the stomach, which kept growing more severe, and twice I had hemorrhages from the stomach, so that I seemed to be on the brink of the grave. I was in bed for a long while, had to be very strict in my diet, and tried innumerable remedies without being healed. In spite of all that was done, the condition grew worse all the time, till in the spring of 1908 I could not retain any kind of food. Another specialist then took my case, who prescribed absolute rest. For about eight weeks I abstained entirely from solid food, and kept in a reclining position, but the moment I began to move about the old pain would return, until I almost despaired of ever getting well again.

One day the book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and a few copies of the Herold were sent to me by my sister who lives in Berlin. She asked me to read the literature carefully, and said she knew that I would be helped, if I were to accept the truth. I had never before heard of Christian Science, but I was so struck by what I read, feeling as if it all rad been written especially for me, that I can say I became well instantaneously. For the first time in a long while I felt hungry again, and ate what was set before me for supper. I cannot remember ever having eaten with such a good appetite, and after that I ate all kinds of food without any ill effects. I felt very well for several months, when I had a relapse, which was probably due to my not having continued to study as I should have done, and I had to apply for help to a practitioner. Absent treatment was given, the Scientist lovingly and untiringly pointing out to me my faults, and gradually I dropped the errors which were besetting me.

I had to work faithfully, and the healing was much slower this time; but this has been a great help to me, as I thus acquired a better understanding of the truth. The occasion has also presented itself several times to demonstrate the power of the truth for my children, and I am glad to be able to say that we have had neither drugs nor physicians for over a year. I have also been able this year to attend all alone to my household duties, including the care of three little children, and even to go through two big removals within six weeks last spring. I know that God is my strength and support, and that I can always rely upon Him. Both my husband and I are most grateful to God for this healing, and to Mrs. Eddy for the wonderful truth she has made so plain to us in our text-book. It is our wish that many sick people may by reading this book discern the divine presence and be healed.
