AMONG THE CHURCHES

The laying of the corner-stone of the new edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, at the corner of Ninth and Bluff streets, took place Saturday morning [June 3] at half past six o'clock. The ceremony was extremely simple, as is customary for affairs of this kind with this particular denomination, and it was witnessed only by the members of the building committee, the board of directors, and the two readers of the church. A copper box containing a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, Founder of Christian Science, and a copy of the Bible, was placed in the stone, which was then rolled in place. The stone is inscribed with the words, "First Church of Christ, Scientist, 1911." It is expected that the new church will be ready for occupancy by Sept. 1.
