AMONG THE CHURCHES

First Church of Christ, Scientist, corner of Tenth street and Central avenue, was dedicated Sunday, Sept. 24. Services were held at 10:45 a.m. and at 3:30 p.m.. both services were largely attended. The church has been built five years, but Christian Science churches are not dedicated until entirely paid for. The dedication address, delivered by the president of the church, was in part as follows:—

This material church, a symbol of "the structure of Truth and Love (Science and Health, p. 583), was organized Nov. 10, 1896, by a few earnest seekers after Truth, who leased a store on central avenue in which to hold services. Later they moved to Jones Hall on willmette avenue. It was while holding services in the hall that active work was begun in selecting the lot and making plans for the church. The laying of the corner-stone was on Oct. 5. 1995, and the opening services were held May 13,1906. Since that time they have purchased the organ and lifted the entire indebtedness upon the building, demonstrating, in a measure at least, that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494).—Local News.
