One morning not long ago, as I arose from my bed and looked out upon the rising sun, the thought came to me that only two and a half years ago I had given up all hope of enjoying such a sight very long. I was reminded of the power of God working through Christian Science, as taught by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Since this truth came to me the world has taken on a different aspect to my once narrow vision, for when I returned to my home, after consulting a physician and listening to the dread verdict, to tell my wife that I was suffering from a malignant disease of the stomach, all hope had vanished.
I was asked to try Christian Science, but would not consent at first. Finally, to rid myself of those who were talking of it, I consented, but I did not believe that it could do me any good. A practitioner gave me absent treatment, and after this, when I had a fair night's rest, the morning found me more willing to investigate further, and by the time (according to material belief) that I should have been resting under the sod, I was preparing to get back to my business, which was that of a carpenter. Over two years have passed with no return of the malignant disease, or of the heart trouble, which was of seventeen or eighteen years' standing, during which time I suffered numerous severe attacks. These ills of the flesh have been overcome by a knowledge of the truth that makes free.
Not only have I this physical healing to be grateful for, but many other miracles have taken place. Before taking up the study of Christian Science I was a confirmed atheist, not believing in any God and with hatred in my heart for more fortunate men. I was convinced that there was no justice in the world; I saw nothing but dark clouds and ignored the silver linings, and I had never a good word or pleasant smile for any one. But the whole world has changed, and now everything is bright and beautiful, for the true light has dawned. I now see around me a world full of splendor, radiant with love, and I owe to Christian Science a debt of everlasting gratitude for all these manifestations of a living God, who is ever present, surrounding us with everything that brings happiness when we know the blessed truth of His constant love.
