At the time Christian Science was brought to my notice I had been a hopeless invalid for twenty years. I had been subject to severe headaches from childhood, the least excitement sending me to bed for several days. As I grew older I united with a church, and prayed constantly to God to give me strength to bear what I then thought was a cross given me, although it seemed dreadful to think that God sent such suffering to mankind. After coming from church I would often have to call a doctor, but they were never able to relieve the pain, and many times I have prayed God to let me die, thinking I should find relief beyond the grave.

I now thank God that through the teachings of Mrs. Eddy I am better able to understand the Bible, and know that God never sends suffering to His children. I shall always have the most loving gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for giving to the world "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It has taught me the allness of God, and that He can and will help His children today as surely as He did the children of Israel. I knew nothing of Christian Science healing at the time I was advised to visit a practitioner, but I had one week's treatment and was healed of the headaches, nervous collapse, a growth in the left side, and many other ills. I went home well, and few can realize what a happy woman I was to know that I was free—that I could "run, and not be weary." It was truly wonderful to feel the buoyancy of youth after so many years of suffering. I had traveled to many places, and had visited many noted doctors, only to find what I now know to be within our own consciousness.

I did not at this time take up the study of Christian Science, and after several years another trouble manifested itself in the shape of a malignant condition of the abdomen. After having dropped Science, I turned back to medicine, as my husband and friends were very much alarmed. I was examined by a specialist, who said if I was not operated on at the end of three weeks my case would be hopeless. At this time I had heart trouble, and was unable to sleep or lie down. I was then taken to several specialists, who gave me no hope. One said the X-ray possibly might help me, so I began the treatment and continued it for eight months. While I rested better, the other conditions were not improved, and I was suffering both bodily and mentally, nearly beyond human endurance, when the thought came to me that Christian Science had healed me once, and why could it not again? I asked my husband what to do, and he agreed with me; so I immediately consulted with a practitioner and started treatment. I had treatment two weeks, and was healed—a well woman.
