As I have been helped in many instances by Christian Science,...
As I have been helped in many instances by Christian Science, I feel it a duty which I owe to the cause to make acknowledgment of the same. Christian Science has surely helped me and my family, spiritually and physically, in the more than seven years since I first heard of it. Early in the spring of 1902 I had a severe attack of illness, which resulted in heart failure, stomach trouble, and shattered nerves. My eyes were affected so that I could not see to read. I was unable to eat without suffering much distress, and very seldom had a night's sleep. By the advice of a physician I put on glasses, and received some relief.
Time went wearily on, with matters going from bad to worse; but at last a friend told my wife about Christian Science and asked us to try it. As for myself, I knew nothing about it, but one morning, a few days later, I was worse and my wife wanted me to go to the lady of whom we had been told. I did not feel like making the trip, and even after we started I wanted to turn back; but my wife insisted, and we went on. When we had arrived and were seated, I told the practitioner about my condition, and she began to talk about God. She told me that if I was willing to lay aside material remedies she would give me treatment. I agreed to this and was given a treatment.
We then went home, and I ate a hearty supper, went to bed, and slept well all night. I awoke next morning feeling like a new man; the sun shone brighter, and life seemed sweeter, with a clearer, freer sense of understanding than I had ever known. If I remember rightly, I received but two treatments, and have never had the help of a practitioner since. We have met and overcome many ills in our family, and all of us have been benefited through Christian Science. I do not use glasses, can eat anything I want, and sleep well. Our little girl, three years old, has never tasted medicine.
