THE LECTURES
Bicknell Young lectured on Christian Science at the church edifice on North State street Tuesday evening, June 7. He was introduced by the Governor of New Hampshire, the Hon. Henry B. Quinby, who spoke as follows:—
It is always a pleasure to me to meet New Hampshire people. It is an especial pleasure to me to meet the citizens of Concord, where I have had so many pleasant hours of official life. And while of course I am not familiar with the tenets of your faith, and while of course you do not expect me to be, I cannot fail to have observed the splendid men and women who make up your congregation. It is a matter of common observation that those delegations which used to come to Concord to meet that wonderful woman who is at the head of your church, were delegations of more than ordinary intelligence; and I cannot believe, neither can any other observing person believe, that these intelligent men and women would be so devoted to this faith unless there was something beneath it which compelled their interest and which was ennobling and which was attractive. As for Mrs. Eddy, we know that she is a most wonderful woman. We know that she is broad-minded, progressive, and benevolent; and her works speak for your faith and for her not only in this city, but all over the civilized world.
I know you have come to listen to one who has for many years been an authorized exponent of Christian Science, and I now have the pleasure of introducing to you Mr. Bicknell Young.—Manchester Union.
