In a recent issue of your paper an evangelist is reported to have said that "the Christian Science church is not a Christian church." While persons of differing creeds might not agree as to what constitutes a Christian, there is a definition which was given by the Master to be found in the 12th verse of the 14th chapter of John's Gospel: "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." When Christ Jesus left this standard by which his followers should be judged, he did not qualify his statements as to time or place; it referred to all his followers in all time. It therefore follows that professed Christians of today must be measured by the Christ-standar, and if they are not doing or trying to do the works which Jesus did, what right have they to call themselves Christian?

Christ Jesus healed sickness, as well as sin, through the power of God and without the use of material remedies. Christian Science teaches that it is possible for the same works to be done in the same way now. This teaching is enabling Christian Scientists to heal sickness through spiritual power without the use of material means, thereby demonstrating their right to be known as Christians. They do not claim yet to have equaled the works of the early Christians, but they are gradually attaining thereto and they believe that with increased spirituality and goodness more success in healing will be acquired.
