The Southern California Homeopathic Medical Society,...

The Southern California Homeopathic Medical Society, at its meeting held in this city, heartily commended the campaign of the National League for Medical Freedom in opposition to the scheme to create a medical trust and arm it with federal powers. ... Create a federal bureau with the powers proposed by the Owen bill, stuff it with disciples of a single school, and presently you will be debarred from the privilege of choosing your own physician or find yourself harassed when ill by inconceivable annoyances of interference with and supervision of the treatment you desire. ... The individual citizen should possess the right to call in the practitioner of any school, and no department of Government should be armed with power to abridge his right. As well have a religious as a medical monopoly. Either would be intolerable. When Government sought to establish religious monopoly, there came the rack, the thumbscrew, and the stake. Progress ceased, retrogression began. Progress would cease and retrogression begin should the Government establish a medical monopoly.

Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.—Abraham Lincoln.
