Remembering how eagerly the Sentinel was searched for...

Remembering how eagerly the Sentinel was searched for testimonies relative to the cure of so-called nerve and heart troubles, while my own healing in Christian Science was being effected, I write this, praying that some distressed one who may chance to read it, shall thereby gain new courage. In coming back to the scene of my illness of five years,—taking with ease the walks which I once found impossible, enjoying work or play with a zest only possible where perfect harmony of mind and body prevail,—I am moved to exclaim many times, "Oh, if only every poor sick girl could know what great things the Lord hath done for me!" I realize that the attitude, "Oh, I do not think Christian Science could help me; nervousness may be cured, but I have such terrible pain, and I have prayed so often, but I suppose I should just ask to be made patient instead of well," is the line which separates them from health and blessings undreamed of. If they could but grasp the comforting assurance that they need not trust in self at all, they would put themselves in God's hands and come out triumphant.

After suffering for five years from what was finally termed an arterial aneurism by three of my seven physicians, and knowing no relief from pain except when under the influence of an opiate, I was led in my extremity to write to a friend who I knew had been healed in Christian Science of serious lung trouble. She replied by sending me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. In reading the chapter on Christian Science Practice, I grasped the essential point, and I went right to work. By mentally resting in the thought of security in Truth, the sense of pain vanished, my healing being only retarded by my needless fear. I realized that I had indeed been "transformed" by the renewing of my mind.—Annie L. Elliott, Parrsbord, Nova Scotia.
