Mrs. Eddy does not claim to have discovered a new truth,...

Dayton (O.) News

Mrs. Eddy does not claim to have discovered a new truth, for Truth has always existed. Moses and Jesus both declared that God is Truth, and Jesus said the truth should make men free. Mrs. Eddy does claim to have discovered the way to apply the truth, and has named her discovery Christian Science, or the Science of Christianity. As the result of gaining an understanding of the divine Principle of Christian Science, her students have been able to heal the sick in Christ's name, but not through mental suggestion, or will-power, or in their own strength. Here lies the difference between mental suggestion and Christian Science healing. No one is as capable of judging how Christian Science heals the sick as the practitioners of this Science.

Christian Scientists do not claim that they are better than other people—far from it; but they do claim that through the teachings of Christian Science they have gained a better understanding of the Christ-healing, and as the natural result of striving to govern their lives by the truth they have become better men and better women than they were before they knew of it.

Yes, the key-note of Christian Science is that "with God all things are possible." We believe this because it is in accord with that which Jesus taught. Christian Scientists recognize Christ Jesus as their divine Exemplar and Saviour. Of the tens of thousands interested in Christian Science, most of this number did not turn to Christian Science for help until after they had given material remedies a fair trial—many having been pronounced hopeless by physicians; and in their extremity they turned to God, and verily found that "with God all things are possible." This explains why they do not still cling to means and methods which failed to bring relief, but prefer to turn to the great Physician "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies." The apostle Paul exhorts us to "prove all things: hold fast that which is good," and this is what Christian Scientists are striving to do.
