Any attempt to explain Christian Science from the view-point of malicious animal magnetism is analogous to an effort to describe the nature and origin of light by peering into darkness. Physics defines light as a mode of motion, something emanating (so far as the earth is concerned) from the sun. Darkness, having no source, admitted to be the absence of light, is nothing.

The "root" or basis of Christian Science is God, its divine Principle, and may be defined as ever-operative spiritual law manifested as the activity of good. Malicious animal magnetism is the human opposite of Christian Science, the darkness of material belief, having neither origin nor power; therefore, it is but a negation. As light dispels darkness, so Christian Science dissipates in individual consciousness all belief in the power or reality of malicious animal magnetism or evil.

Erroneously regarded as the formulator of some new phase of occultism, Mrs. Eddy cannot be understood; rightly viewed as the Discoverer of Christian Science, her strength and purity of character become apparent, for "a good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good."
