AMONG THE CHURCHES

First Church of Christ, Scientist, has purchased a valuable property on Second avenue, between Twelfth and Thirteenth streets, as a location for a fine church building which it is the society's intention to construct in the not distant future. The property is one of the most valuable and best located in the inside residence district, and has a frontage of 124 feet by 140 feet deep. The Scientists consider the location ideal, as it is half way between the First and Third avenue car lines. It is close to the church community on the east side—so close that it will be a part of that community.—Cedar Rapids Gazette.

On Sunday, Oct. 23, the members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, held their first service in the new church home which they have recently purchased. The special features of the service were a brief history of the church, read by the First Reader; also a letter was read and sent to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, expressing gratitude for benefits received through Christian Science. The cost of the property was about fifteen hundred dollars, and, though the membership is small, it is entirely paid for. The lot is eighty feet wide and nearly two hundred feet deep, making it an excellent site for a church to be erected in the future.
