With due respect for the opinion of our critic, permit me...
San Diego (Cal.) Union.
With due respect for the opinion of our critic, permit me to say that there is a fixed and impassable gulf between Christian Science and all forms of faith-cure and other agencies of the human or mortal mind. The one distinctive thing about Christian Science is its declaration that there is only one Mind, one God. It is doing its good works by virtue of the unfailing operation of the law of God. This has no competitor nor equal.
I note it is stated that the late Professor James sought to give the best antidote for Christian Science by taking it out in the open instead of laughing at it. About the very best thing that can happen to Christian Science is to "take it out in the open" and keep it there. This Science contains nothing mysterious, occult, or hidden. "It presents," as Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 358), "the calm and clear verdict of Truth against error, uttered and illustrated by the prophets, by Jesus, by his apostles, as is recorded throughout the Scriptures."
No one has an antidote for the truth, and indeed would not desire even to present one should he recognize it. Christian Science declares and proves itself to be the expression of truth, and rests upon the broad and unfailing platform of demonstration. Truth, wherever found, rests for its verity upon this same platform, and Christian Science has no other for the purpose of establishing its validity.
