I feel that the time has come for me to give thanks for...
I feel that the time has come for me to give thanks for the many blessings received by us in Christian Science. For twelve years I suffered with a severe nervous trouble, and for three years was also afflicted with heart disease. I had spasms of the heart several times during the day, and often suffered excruciating pain. The physicians had pronounced my case incurable. We tried all the remedies they prescribed, but the improvement was only for a short while.
About a year and a half ago my mother heard of Christian Science through an acquaintance. We immediately applied to a practitioner in Hannover for help. She took up treatment at once, and with twelve treatments I was healed of these ills of years' standing; and the sense of fear which I had until recently, had completely left me. I believed that God loved us like a father, and yet I also believed that He had inflicted disease upon me. Now I am happier than ever before in my life, and not only myself, but my parents, sisters, and brothers as well, enjoy the best of health. My mother had been afflicted with a severe abdominal complaint for the past twenty years, and twice had to submit to a serious operation, but she has been completely healed of this trouble. In the fall of 1909 she was taken ill suddenly, and had inflammation at the roots of the teeth, and her face was so swollen that she could hardly talk. We immediately telephoned to a practitioner in Hannover, asking for help. With the second treatment the swelling went down, and soon she was completely restored, being able to attend to all the household duties on the second day.
My ten-year-old sister had lung trouble for four years, besides asthma and a throat affection. She was freed from these diseases, and now is a happy and healthy child. My eldest brother, who is serving in the army, suffered with an injured finger in the spring of 1909, and poisoning set in, so that he was thought to be at death's door for several days. His hand was operated upon several times. While in this distressing condition we wrote to a Christian Science practitioner, asking for treatment. The effect was marvelous, so that he was able to get up after a couple of days, and was dismissed well from the infirmary four weeks later. This wonderful healing has confirmed our faith still more, and in future we shall have no physician and use no medicine except the one great Physician.
