Newburgh (N. Y.) Union.

According to a news report published elsewhere in these columns, a clergyman of Mount Vernon, one of the most eloquent and "learned divines in the Baptist church," spoke at the meeting of the Central Hudson Baptist Association last evening [Oct. 5], at the Moulton Memorial Church. The report declares that he "scathingly arrainged Christian Science, and that he termed it Buddhism with a Christian label." With all due respect to the learned doctor, there is no more resemblance between Christian Science and Buddhism than there is between one of the whirling dervishes of India and the learned doctor himself. As for Christian Science and Mrs. Eddy, this much may be said of the faith and its first apostle: Christian Science minds its own business, and finds that it has quite enough to do without "scathingly arraigning" the Baptists or any of the rest. Mrs. Eddy is a kindly, gracious woman, upon whom old age has left nothing but marks of beauty. We never heard of her making a "scathing arraignment" of anybody.

Many cases having come under our own personal observation, in which we have had the opportunity to see the good that Christian Science has done, we do not hesitate to tell the "learned doctor" that his criticism of an elderly woman who has done him no harm is in decidedly bad taste.
