LETTERS TO OUR LEADER
Kansas City, Mo., March 31, 1909.
Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy.
Beloved Leader:—I wish to express my sincere gratitude to you for Science and Health. It has explained to me the Science of being, which I had long desired. I did not come into Christian Science through or for the physical healing, but by the understanding of its clear logic. Coming from a strict orthodox family, and not being satisfied with their explanation of the Scriptures. I sought in vain through the now prevalent philosophies for a rational solution of the Science of being,—the cause of my existence,—but not until I carefully studied Science and Health had I the least understanding of the Bible—of man or his relation to his Maker; so I am indeed grateful for your book, which is more advanced than poor humanity can realize, and for which each individual can best express his gratitude to you by daily living its teachings.
Your loving follower,
Frank Householder.

Dear Leader:—Through you I have learned the saving truth, as expressed by the enclosed lines, that Christ, Truth, lives and heals now as Jesus did when here among men. For the proof you have given of that knowledge, I love you and thank you, for that truth has given me new life, and an understanding of God, good.
Faithfully yours,
Louise Delisle Radzinski.

Beloved Leader:—It is with the deepest gratitude and love that I acknowledge the good which has come to me from the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and your other writings. I would like you to know how much good has been gained in the last year from "Angels" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 306) by myself and many others who have referred to those inspiring lines. Also "Pulpit and Press," beginning with line 22 on page 3 and ending with the second paragraph on page 4. I am daily striving to show my gratitude for the spiritual understanding that has come to me from the daily study of this wonderful truth which you have given the world, by bringing forth the fruit which the understanding bears in healing the sick and uplifting humanity.
Six years ago I was given a copy of Science and Health by some friends in Ohio, and from the first day that I began to read I commenced to apply the truth, and by that application sorrow, disease, and lack have been overcome. Instead of looking forward to an old age of helplessness, as I did before the book was given me, I begin each day with an assurance of strength, of might, and of power. I had used glasses for seventeen years, but it is now four years since I put them aside. All that has been gained I owe to the understanding which has come from the study of your writings.
With deepest gratitude,
Mrs. Susan A. Beauchamp.

Dear Mrs. Eddy:—On this beautiful morning I am prompted by the gratitude which fills my heart to write and thank you for giving us Christian Science. It has been ten years since I began the study of Science and Health, and during all that time I have relied upon the truth, as taught in Christian Science, to meet and conquer every difficulty that has presented itself. I rejoice to say that added strength has always been felt with every overcoming of error. My prayer is that I may so live as to be worthy of the name of Christian Scientist.
Gratefully yours,
Tyna P. Stillwell.

Dear Leader:—My heart is so full of gratitude to God for the marvelous healing that has been given to me through Christian Science, that a deep sense of duty prompts me to write to you a statement of the wonderful restoration of health which has brought sunshine into my life. For many years I had been a victim of periodical attacks of asthmatic trouble. I had tried all the material remedies suggested by kind and well-meaning friends, without getting relief. For six years I had also been tormented with a double hernia, had worn various kinds of appliances, and been told by surgeons that on account of my being in declining years there was no cure for me, and that I must expect to wear a truss the remainder of my life. Last April I had an attack of the asthmatic trouble which was very distressing and alarming. My daughter, who had been healed of an agonizing pain in her side by Christian Science, urged me to go to a practitioner in First Church of Christ, Scientist, in New York, who had been instrumental in healing her, and yielding to her wishes, I consented. I frankly stated to the practitioner that I had not been able to accept the teachings of Christian Science, although I had been reading Science and Health, but I asked her to help me. I explained to her my asthmatic condition, but said nothing relative to the hernia. After receiving six treatments the former trouble entirely disappeared, and the morning after my sixth treatment I discovered that I no longer needed the truss, that the double hernia was completely healed. There was no sign of it in evidence,—no more soreness, no pain, no scar from a surgeon's knife,—a perfect healing. Nearly a year has passed since this marvelous healing brought happiness to me, and no language at my command can fittingly express the gratitude in my heart. Christian Science is a glorious demonstrable truth, as shown in the wonderful healing it has given to me.
Most gratefully and sincerely yours,
Chas. L. Dunham.

Dearly Beloved Leader:—With deepest gratitude that words can never express, I thank you for your pure, noble life, and for your uplifting books, Science and Health and "Miscellaneous Writings," which have been to me fountains of living water. I had never believed in the church, and had remained aloof from it for many years. To me the prayers were always "vain repetitions," and I always felt that I could pray just anywhere. I have not had a very bright life, and a good deal of it has been spent with an invalid friend, but all the dark clouds are rolling away, thanks to your loving guidance. I have only been in Science barely a year, but have had many demonstrations of the ever-presence of divine Love, two of which were instantaneous.
I never cease to thank God for your pure life. That you "dwell in the secret place of the most High" is shown by your loving care for all your followers.
Very lovingly, your humble follower,
Gertrude E. Salter.

Beloved Leader:—"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" has been to me
A shining light, a guiding star;
A loving message from afar;
A book of peace, of hope, of love;
A word to guide to heights above;
A path in which my feet have trod,
To find a home on earth with God.
"Actions speak louder than words," and by mine I am striving each day to thank you.
Obediently,
Mary Rice Brinton.

Dear Mrs. Eddy:—A worker in the news department of our increasingly useful Christian Science Monitor, I turn to you in gratitude and love for the privilege we now have of serving our Cause—the Cause of all humanity. My experience here is daily proving for me the power of good, and enabling me to realize more and more your wonderous definition of Love. God is helping us all to show our real affection for you, the revelator of Truth, in obedience and better service.
Faithfully,
John F. Phillips.
