My heart is full of gratitude for my understanding of...
My heart is full of gratitude for my understanding of Christian Science as revealed and taught to us by our loving Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and I am anxious to contribute my testimony of healing, in the hope that it may lead others to follow in the path of love and truth. For nearly thirty years I had spells of mental trouble, and was often an inmate of asylums, where I remained for several months at a time, or until I was restored to my right mind. Three years ago, while working on a farm in Century, Fla., I became insane, and my employer, under the state law, was compelled to take me again to an asylum. Before I left, my employer's wife, who is a Christian Scientist, recommended to my wife that I have treatment in Christian Science, and said she would write to a practitioner; which she did. In the mean time I was sent to the asylum, but in six weeks I was a well man. I returned to my home and work, and now three years have passed and there has been no return of the trouble. I enjoy the Christian Science Quarterly, and every day I arise early and go over the sections before going to my daily labor. At times I feel a sense of the old trouble creeping over me, but after reading the Lesson I know I can do a good day's work, as Truth casteth out error.
My wife has had several demonstrations, and we know that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). A number of our colored friends are becoming interested in Christian Science, and we hope in time to have a society, where we can meet and go over our Lesson-Sermon. I am very grateful to our dear Leader, who has shown us the way to declare the truth.
Anderson Jefferson, Former Pastor, Missionary (colored) Baptist Society, Century, Fla.
