About two years ago I was a complete wreck from the use of morphine, a habit acquired in the endeavor to get relief from suffering. Through a period of over two years I was a slave to the use of this drug, resulting in loss of appetite and sleep. My family were in constant fear that in my partially unconscious state I would end my own life or destroy theirs. I went to a noted sanitarium, where I remained five months. I then took a well-known "cure," and was under the care of the best physicians at different sanitariums, but all efforts to obtain relief were ineffectual and the craving for the drug undiminished.
I had heard of the wonderful cures through Christian Science, but did not think it possible that it could help me; besides, so far as I knew, they had no sanitarium in which to confine their patients, and it was not considered safe for me to have my liberty. I told the Christian Scientist to whom I applied for help that I had no hope, but that I was willing to try this as a last resort. The practitioner assured me that God did not need to put a man in prison in order to heal him of a sinful or diseased habit, and that an absolute trust in God would make me free. Following instructions as best I could, I obtained a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and continued treatment with a most patient practitioner. Getting my help from the one supreme power, I was entirely healed, and I now have not the slightest desire for opiates or intoxicants of any kind.
For the great blessings that have come to me through Christian Science I am truly thankful.
