It is always such a help and encouragement to read the testimonies in the Sentinel and Journal that I feel I am not being sufficiently grateful if I do not acknowledge all that Christian Science has done for me. I used to be full of fear,—fear of the future, fear of people, and I was even afraid of the food I ate. Now, all these fears have gone or are fast disappearing, and in all around me I am learning to see God's reflection. Before I heard of Christian Science I wore glasses when I wanted to see off any distance. Without taking any thought on the subject, and while studying "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I used my glasses less and less; till one day I found that I needed them no more. I had been interested in Christian Science only a short time when I was stung by a wasp. I did not tell any one, and could not go away by myself to work against the sense of pain, except for a moment, as friends were waiting for me; but I declared the truth constantly, and when I returned home all pain and discomfort had gone. Through the knowledge of this truth I have also been able to overcome colds, internal pain, and other ailments. I have taken no medicine since I heard of Christian Science, now nearly three years.

All this, however, seems small compared to the greater understanding and love of the Bible, and the practical guidance that comes from the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon. I do not live near any other Scientist and sometimes would be glad of advice and help, but I have found that in proportion as I empty myself of all self-will, the needed guidance comes, either through the Lesson-Sermon or through prayer, as understood in Christian Science. At first I did not want to be grateful to Mrs. Eddy, but now I am indeed grateful to her,—grateful for the pure life she has lived, which has enabled her to write Science and Health, and for her wise guidance of everything connected with the Christian Science movement, providing the Sentinel, Journal, and lectures, which are all such a help to those living out of reach of a church. For all these blessings I am indeed grateful.
