THE LECTURES

Tuesday evening, Sept, 21, in the Unitarian Church, William D McCrackan, M . A., delivered a lecture on Christian Science. The speaker was introduced by Col. Stephen S. Jewett, who said in part,—

Life is superb when, as little children, we each day receive on the light wings of morning. in the sweet breath of dawn, some welcome surprise from the infinite storehouse of God. Within the memory of many here present a movement in Christianity has engaged the attention of the thinking people of the world. Christian Science is today occupying a conspicuous place in human thought and endeavor. Churches have sprung up all over this land, and in foreign lands. Its teachings have a firm hold upon the hearts and minds of great numbers of people. I am not a Christian Scientist and do not know enough of its teachings to talk intelligently about it, but I do not hesitate to say that any religious belief or influence that makes men happy and contented, that gives courage and strength, and inculcates a more firm belief in God and the teachings of Jesus Christ, and is attaching to standard thousands of thinking people the world over, is well worthy the attention and serious consideration of right-minded people.
