In September, 1902, I became acquainted with Christian Science...

In September, 1902, I became acquainted with Christian Science here in Hannover, after I had suffered for seventeen years both physically and mentally. Frequency attacks of rheumatism, a stubborn, painful disease of the skin, heart trouble, and shattered nerves had brought me near insanity. Moreover, a condition of deep discord reigned in our home and business life, and all I longed for was death; but even as the flower responds to the light, so did I imbibe the comforting teachings of Christian Science, for I felt immediately that the overwhelming truth presented, and the great love which was shown me, alone could help me; and thus I was to experience through divine Love a gradual awakening from the dream of materiality. The old Adam-way with all its windings was given up, and the new man by and by led my thought toward the light, the new man, before whose spiritual vision "the world passeth away, and the lust thereof," and to whom the origin, end, and aim of life, contents and sum total, mean God and His idea.

Since that time everything has turned toward good. For the past five years and a half no physician has entered our home; I have been enabled to treat my children and all my loved ones in Christian Science, and with good results, and I am becoming the master of my body and of our circumstances: all this through the understanding and application of Christian Science. I understand perfectly that Mrs. Eddy, through the rediscovery of the Science of Christ, has given to humanity that which is far above gold and silver and all earthly things. Next to God, our daily thanks are due to her.
