In these days when so much is being written and said...

In these days when so much is being written and said about Christian Science not being able to heal organic lesions, or of there being no proof thereof, I feel it is time for Christian Scientists to speak whereof they know. There must be hundreds of unimpeachable cases, and I, for one, would like to present the evidence in my own case to these critics. Let them go on and do what good they can; I would say, as did the Master "Forbid him not;" but let them forbear from making statements which can be disproved so easily.

In the fall of 1904 I seemed to have reached low watermark. For about six years I had been struggling against a physical breakdown. Medicine, massage, and electricity failed to help me. My church and religious experiences became a dead letter to me—they could not help me in my extreme need. In 1900 I got temporary help from psychic treatments, only to sink lower than I was before. I then launched into a flood of speculative literature, in some of which there seemed to be good, but there was nothing that I could apply to my own relief. About this time I borrowed a copy of Science and Health, which I kept four weeks, but it seemed unintelligible to me. In October, 1904, a crisis came. A cyst of considerable size, which had formed on the right side of my neck fourteen years before, suddenly became malignant. I had previously had one removed from my left temple by a surgeon. That one, being over a bone, was easily removed, but this was in soft tissue near the jugular vein, which made it much more serious, and I feared an operation. I consulted with a neighbor who was a Christian Scientist, with the result that I went to a practitioner and began to take treatments. At the same time I bought a copy of Science and Health and began to read it. This time the book was intelligible to me from the beginning, and seemed most wonderful. The removal of the tumor and the healing took three months, during which time I kept on with my housework. It was an unspeakable relief to be saved from the surgeon's knife, and since then I have had many minor demonstrations, besides three others which may be worth mentioning.

In the latter part of December, 1905, I fell on the ice and sustained a very severe injury of the right wrist. The large bones were involved from elbow to wrist, also the small wrist bones, and besides this the middle finger was badly wrenched. I at once telephoned a Christian Science practitioner. Neither the arm nor wrist was ever bandaged, and as I went about my work I gradually brought the hand into service. It is the very best healing of a Colles fracture that I have ever seen, and I am ready to show the wrist to any one who may be interested. My next demonstration was in the case of a hard bronchial attack, and at another time an eruption on the head. Both of these complaints were quickly and thoroughly healed in Christian Science. (With the latter attack I lost all my hair, but it is growing finely now.)
