[Written for the Sentinel.]

A SONG OF PROMISE

In the silent caverns 'neath hill and rock,
In the sunbeam streaked with gold,
Christ speaks to the hearts of his chosen flock,
And the story ne're grows old.
As we listen there falls on the willing ear
A message so tender and true,
That the sparkle of life with its song of cheer
Makes the old-time love seem new;

Makes the words of the Master seem more real,
Makes the light of the day intense.
Have ye thus awakened, that now ye feel
The bondage of mortal sense?
Then truly at last shall ye find the goal;
Tread on, for the hour draws nigh
When the world shall bask in the realm of Soul,
'Neath a sunlit, cloudless sky.
