What Mrs. Eddy has done for humanity is to reveal and...
Nonpareil
What Mrs. Eddy has done for humanity is to reveal and make practical teachings of truth which have always existed. Our critic must recognize the fact that concerning many scientific and demonstrably true discoveries of the present day, "the world has blundered on in darkness for thousands of years." Mrs. Eddy does not claim that Christian Science is new, but that it is the adaptation to the needs of humanity of the same healing Principle of which prophet and apostle caught glimpses and which Jesus Christ taught and practised in its completeness. Its healing ministry cannot therefore be justly likened to incantations or other occult practices, but is on the contrary the direct result of intelligent prayer and the understanding of God's laws.
In the teaching of Christian Science concerning mind and matter, in its teachings as to the reality and perpetuity of God, man, and the universe, in its presentation of the nature and character of Jesus the Christ, the Saviour of the world, it is in exact accord with Scripture, with reason and revelation, and is entirely consistent with its premise and conclusion; namely, "perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration" (Science and Health, p. 259). It might be well to call attention to the fact that as a matter of Scriptural record the religion of Jesus Christ "healed all manner of diseases among the people." We have no authority anywhere for believing that the religion of Jesus has changed. The Scripture states: "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever."
Mrs. Eddy, through her spiritual insight, her grasp upon ultimate Truth, has been able to present this same healing religion of Jesus Christ in a practical way, and humanity has eagerly availed itself of the hope of surcease from its woes which Christian Science presents.
