Over two years ago my uncle, then aged seventy-three years, was taken sick with a disease which was manifested in an eruption all over his body. His aged mother, who believed in Christian Science, as we also did, asked us to write to a practitioner in Chicago for treatment for him. Although we felt at the time that we were not doing right by the practitioner in placing such a badly neglected case in his care, we wrote, trusting in Truth to do the healing. We reported the case daily, and after a few days the eruption stopped spreading, but other symptoms appeared which caused us to think the patient was worse.
Then came a hard trial of our faith. Relatives and neighbors all pronounced the death sentence against the sufferer; but we held fast to Christian Science, and finally we were filled with joy to see him growing better. A little later, however, unfavorable symptoms appeared, which we promptly reported to the practitioner, and received a reply telling us to calm our fears and to be patient. After a reasonable time these conditions yielded to treatment, and the patient was healed. He is now a well man and two years older, being seventy-five. The recovery of my uncle had a wonderful influence on my mother, and in fact upon all of us, convincing us beyond a doubt of the power of Christian Science to heal all manner of disease.
