Since my mother was healed of a severe illness some...
Since my mother was healed of a severe illness some six months ago by divine Truth, it has been in my mind to express through the columns of the Sentinel my gratitude for such a beautiful proof of God's allness. The attack seemed very alarming, and the disease appeared on the face and head, and was accompanied by great pain and swelling. A Christian Science practitioner came to the house about two o'clock in the morning, and was left alone with her patient. At breakfast time mother was able to speak intelligently, where before she had been delirious. The appearance of the disease on the head had received its death-blow, making one think of a weed that had been uprooted; but its power to cause suffering was utterly destroyed. It took a few days before my mother's face was quite normal, and then, besides the pleasure of looking on a wholesome skin, there was the face illumined by the light of divine Love, for the wrong thoughts whose direful effects we had seen had been destroyed, and the light shone unobstructed. From the Christian Science treatment a scalp disease of a lifetime disappeared, leaving the skin as clean as a babe's; and where there had been baldness, there is now a beautiful growth of hair, and this at the age of seventy years. While there is untold gratitude for a mother restored, there is more for the knowledge that the God who "healeth all thy diseases" is a power available every day and on every occasion, and that those whose baptism is a purification from error can give the proof thereof.
To Mrs. Eddy, the "pure in heart," who has revealed to waiting humanity God's ever-presence and All-power, our gratitude goes forth with an earnest prayer to express in our lives the beauty of her teaching.
