No Christian Scientist ever agreed to heal anybody

No Christian Scientist ever agreed to heal anybody. He agreed to treat him. You take the ordinary physician in good standing, and if a man comes to him for help he will say, "Yes, I will take your case, and do the very best I can." We assume exactly that position. With the knowledge we have of Christian Science, which at the present time we acknowledge to be in its infancy as a practice, we undertake a man's case and do the very best we can. It seems rather strange that anything which would have a tendency to bring Christian Science into disrepute should be telegraphed from one country, however distant, to another, when there are constantly occurring cases of healing, of what are generally considered incurable diseases, by Christian Science; and no telegraphic agency takes the pains to inform the world about those. Yet there is no question as to their relative importance. The method of Christian Science healing is purely mental—or the word spiritual may, perhaps, describe it more exactly. It is prayer in the very highest sense of the word. But it is not what is ordinarily called prayer for it not only involves faith, but absolute understanding of what God, is, and of what His law is. As a method it is set forth in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and in no other literature will the correct method be found.
