When Christian Science was first presented to me, as...
When Christian Science was first presented to me, as a possible help for an injury received in my business, which is that of a builder, I rejected it as worthless, and in consequence went on suffering for weeks. A second injury came, and again a Scientist offered to help me; but once more I refused, and long weeks of suffering under materia medica followed as before. In the case of a third injury another offer of help was made by the Scientist whose house I was building, and this was accepted. I was astonished at the quick relief and comfort received. Later, my wife and daughter were healed of acute suffering; then a grandchild was transformed from a puny, sickly child to a robust, healthy boy by the same method. Later still, I asked for Christian Science treatment for the habit of stuttering, which began when I first learned to talk, fifty-eight years ago. I am very thankful to say that after two weeks' treatment I could talk as well as other men, which is to me a great wonder. Until these experiences I could not believe there was any God. I said, "Show me a God and I will believe," but I never found any one who could, till Christian Science revealed Him to me as infinite Mind,—an ever-present help in time of trouble. I am no longer in bondage to an irritable, fractious disposition, blaming and cursing my employes because they could not do exactly that which was very easy for me to do. Now I know that my workmen do the best they can: I am satisfied and have no trouble with them. I discovered that the error was often my own fault instead of being another's. Now, when my thought is right, harmony reigns around me, at home and in business.
How could I live without Christian Science? is the question I often ask myself, for it has become indispensable to me and mine. We are very grateful to God, and to our dear Leader for this truth.
