About two years ago a new light began to dawn in my life. It found me in a condition bordering on hopelessness, mentally and physically. For many years I had been a sufferer, having a number of ailments, diagnosed by physicians as malarial, rheumatic, stomach, and nervous trouble. In the summer of 1903 I broke down completely, and for more than two years I spent most of the time at sanitariums, being all of the time under treatment by the best physicians of whom I knew, with but occasional temporary relief, so materia medica certainly had a fair chance with me. In the midst of my intense suffering kind friends earnestly though unobtrusively advised that I try Christian Science, but like many others I put it off until it appeared to be the last resort. Finally a friend loaned me a copy of the "little book," Science and Health. I had not read many pages before I saw I had found that for which I had been looking, and the farther I read the more I became convinced of that fact. I then sought and found a practitioner, who lovingly and patiently treated me, helping me to overcome doubt and fear with the usual inevitable result when Principle is faithfully understood and the truth applied. When I have had discouragements and temptations to meet and overcome, I have found divine Love an everpresent help in trouble. My heart is full of loving gratitude to God, who created man in His image and likeness, and to our revered Leader, whose teachings made this fact apparent to me. I am also most grateful for the help received through First Church of Christ, Scientist, of this city, of which I am a happy member. It is the dearest spot on earth to me.
