FROM OUR EXCHANGES

[The Examiner.]

The glory of the leader of a great movement is not that he alone possesses the truth or the idea, but that he is the better representative or exponent of the truth which he shares with many others. It burns in him while it is measurably buried in others. He is simply its best representative. So it should be with the minister or preacher. His tongue is bound specially to represent the truth; but his life must corroborate his tongue, or his tongue's testimony is discounted. The church is to be the completer and better representative of the Master and of his truth through the service of the minister; but it can never relegate to him its service. It is individually and collectively to attend to this work of embodying and expressing the truth of the Master and his cause. Individuals are to serve the church for the church's sake, and the church is to serve the individual for his sake. Individualism and socialism are to blend in a common effort to redeem the world.
