It is now more than four years since I first knew of Christian Science. I was in a pitiable condition, suffering from bowel trouble in a very serious form. The remedies used daily caused intense suffering. I had undergone one operation without any relief, when a dear friend asked me to go with her to a Christian Science practitioner. I did so, and the third day I had entire relief, after having been in a partially paralyzed condition for five years. I continued with this treatment one month, and then discontinued it; then I began to grow worse than ever. I was told by four of the best physicians that if I did not consent to a second operation of a much more serious nature than the first, I could not live longer than three or four weeks. I felt that I would rather die than again undergo that ordeal, and utterly discouraged and in intense mental suffering I sought another Christian Science practitioner I shall never forget how tenderly she talked to me, and how the light broke into my prison cell when she told me that God did not afflict me, showing me that God's creation is perfect. Health and peace came very quickly, and to-day I am a well woman. I had tried every known medicine for that kind of trouble, bearing witness to the truth of Jeremiah's statement, "In vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured." Besides being healed in Christian Science of this distressing bowel trouble, I took off glasses, which I had worn fourteen years. I use them now only to read with, but I know I shall not use them always even for that, as the eye is constantly growing stronger.
To say that I am grateful to God, who is all-power, for these blessings but feebly expresses my thought, as I owe all I am and have to God, and to our dear Leader, who has made the truth known to us.
