I feel it a duty as well as a pleasure to give my testimony...
I feel it a duty as well as a pleasure to give my testimony, hoping it may cheer some one in a suffering, helpless condition, as I was. Christian Science has raised me up from a bed of affliction, has restored to me health and happiness, peace and contentment. For five months I was not able to do anything, not even go to the dining-room for my meals. I went on in this way, trying to endure as best I could, thinking it was God's will for me to be sick and suffer; but I often wondered why I should suffer so much when I was trying to live a Christian life. Three weeks previous to my healing I became so ill that I could not stand on my feet and suffered greatly even when lying down. A doctor came and treated me but I grew worse all the time. Finally, the Great Physician came to me as the healer of all my diseases. My healing has been most wonderful. Two of my friends were Christian Scientists and they visited me regularly. They would always tell me that they had been healed through Christian Science, and I became very much interested. One of my friends told me that man's extremity is God's opportunity, and I found it to be so. My strength was almost gone; I made every effort to get up, with the help of my husband, just a few minutes before I was healed; but I was too weak. I felt that the time was near for me to leave my dear husband and four little children, and in that dark hour of despair my husband urged me to try the medicine a while longer, and then try Christian Science. Just then I thought of the beautiful hymn, "What a friend we have in Jesus," and I turned to God for help and strength. And it came! I rose at once from my bed, praising God for what He had done for me; and I continue to praise Him. I have no words of my own to express it, but I recall the words of the Master, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I have had many beautiful demonstrations of the truth with my children, and many ills have been overcome. One very sick child was healed at the same time I was, and I threw out his medicine and mine together.
I thank Mrs. Eddy for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." With the Bible it is my daily study. I take the Sentinel, which I dearly love to read. I can say as did Paul, "Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift."
