THE LECTURES
The annual public lecture under the direction of First Church of Christ, Scientist, was given at the Jefferson Theater before a large audience yesterday afternoon [May 5], by Judge Septimus J. Hanna of Colorado Springs. Mayor Thomas, whose active interest in Christian Science was recently announced by the Republican-News, introduced the speaker, saying in part,—
Christian Science has accomplished so much good by healing the sick and bringing spiritual blessings to those who have sought its help, that it has to-day to a large extent some of the most intellectual people counted among its membership. Through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I have been greatly benefited. My Bible, which used to occupy a place in the bookcase, is now constantly at hand on the library table—I need it every day since its truths have been more fully revealed; and whereas most of it used to be incomprehensible reading to me, now it fills my thought with spiritual understanding.
Christian Science has been a source of great blessing in my home. I take it for granted you all know of the healing of my son, who was weak and anæmic and unchildlike all his life. Last January we took him to a Christian Science practitioner as a last resort, and in less than one week we could see a decided change for the better, and in a very short time he was perfectly well and now enjoys all the sports and pleasures of other children. My great joy over his recovery is what led me to take up the study of Christian Science, and through it even fear for him has been removed, for "perfect love casteth out fear." In many other ways has the power of God been revealed in our home through Christian Science. If Christian Science as given us by Mrs. Eddy were not true, then would we still be asking the question of Pilate, "What is truth?" But Christian Science expressly teaches what Jesus the Christ taught nineteen hundred years ago. Its whole purpose is the revelation of divine Love—the Comforter which leadeth into all truth.—The Republican-News.
