About two years ago I had occasion to go to a dentist for some work on my teeth. Before going I tried to realize that I need suffer no pain, for our textbook says that "nerves have no more sensation, apart from what belief bestows upon them, than the fibres of a plant" (Science and Health, p. 488). Several teeth were filled, and at one juncture the dentist looked at me sharply and said, "If I hurt you, you must be sure to tell me." I promised to do so, but it was not necessary, for I felt no pain. A short time ago a friend told me that she was informed by this dentist that he had filled one of my teeth over a live nerve, and that he thought it might have been Christian Science that had spared me the pain. As he said nothing to me at the time, I had been ignorant of this wonderful demonstration for two years. It showed me how many times we prove the power of Truth to others, without being ourselves fully conscious of it, and it made me more than ever grateful to Christ, Truth, that "healeth all thy diseases."—Frances G. Smith, Toledo, O.
