I may truthfully say that I never was free from some...
I may truthfully say that I never was free from some disease until I was led to read Science and Health, in August, 1905. I had been treated by many physicians, of every school, besides trying magnetic treatment, osteopathy, etc., all to no avail. I was feeling hopeless and helpless when a sister in Chicago asked me to come and visit her, and that together we would study "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I went, but when I began to read I grew critical and dissatisfied. My sister said, "Be fair, read to understand and not to criticise." I then settled down to reading, but like many another, because I was reading the book I thought I was a Christian Scientist. I had been troubled with a belief that the eating of fruit would bring on intestinal trouble, but thought I, "I am a Christian Scientist, so it won't hurt me," but without having learned how to prevent it from doing so. I ate quite freely of fruit, and this seemed to bring on my old complaint. My sister treated me, but I was so full of fear I could not be reached. She begged me to have a Scientist help me, but I was afraid and called in a physician, who, after trying to locate my trouble, said as all others had, that it was due to a mental condition. I was so ashamed and provoked at my lack of faith in Christian Science that I did not take his medicine, but went to a Christian Science practitioner; and from then until now I have been earnestly seeking "the kingdom of God, and his righteousness." I have been able through the truth, as taught by our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, to overcome many ailments both for myself and others.
Last winter I burned my arm severely, but I declared the truth and it was not even sore. Again, recently, I had what seemed to be a boil on my arm. I again declared the truth, and it disappeared, leaving my arm perfectly smooth. A second one did not progress so far, and many who do not understand the truth wondered at it. I am most grateful to our dear Leader, who has made it possible through her book Science and Health to overcome error with the truth that makes us free indeed.
