It is with a deep sense of gratitude to God, and to our beloved Leader, that I seek to express my thanks for Christian Science and what it has done for me. Truth has been our family physician for seventeen years. During the late summer and autumn of 1901 we had in our family a case of fever which brought out a most beautiful demonstration of the power of divine Love and Truth. The patient, my son, a young man, wanted no treatment but Christian Science, and had no other. He was working and boarding away from home at the time he was taken ill. He came home on Sunday morning and said he was not feeling well. He decided to remain at home that night, and after he was healed he said that it seemed as if he had gone to sleep then and not waked up until he awoke well. I give thanks to God as the ever-present Life that can and does dispel the illusion of death. I am also grateful that through the understanding of Christian Science as taught by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, he was healed. It seemed to be a most serious case. One morning when the practitioner came there was no sign of life, but he spoke to my son several times, and receiving no reply, began to treat him. My son then looked up, and reached out to shake hands. The Scientist asked him if he would like to get up and be dressed, and he said he would. With a little help he was soon dressed, and then walked into another room. He asked for something to eat and took a hearty meal. It was not long before he regained his strength, and his sight; his hair began to grow, also his finger-nails were restored. I wish to say again that there was not one single material remedy used. How can we ever fear to trust all to such a God who is Truth and Love!
