I did not come into Christian Science on account of...

I did not come into Christian Science on account of physical healing; but after studying Science and Health carefully, and taking a course of instruction from one of Mrs. Eddy's pupils, I was convinced that Christian Science reveals the truth and is founded upon the immortal teachings of Christ Jesus. When I was fourteen years old I joined an orthodox church, and received many benefits from my connection with that church for over fifty years. I was well acquainted with many of its prominent ministers in Chicago, and considered some of them my personal friends; my children were all baptized in that church, and attended Sunday School and church services; I know that they also were very much benefited, and for this reason it was no easy matter for me to sever my connection with that church in order to join another religious organization. The demand upon me, however, seemed imperative for my own and my family's good, and I took the step without the least doubt as to its being the right thing to do in the light of the knowledge I had gained through my study of Christian Science. Since my association with the Christian Science Church I have been healed of bronchial trouble. I have also been healed of excessive nervousness, and a tendency to become quickly irritated at the least provocation. The habit of worrying about my business and my family affairs has likewise been cured, and I now know God is ever-present; that divine Love will deliver my family and myself from all evil, as well as from sickness and sin.

When I need help I study the Lessons from the Bible and Science and Health; I also repeat from memory and read the vivifying and immortal words of Christ Jesus, who was dear to me long before I knew of Christianity under this new scientific classification. Now that I have accepted Christian Science I am ready and earnestly desire to defend and maintain its teachings. I can assure the world that it is here to stay. It will live throughout the centuries as promulgated by our revered and much loved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—Bartow A. Ulrich, Chicago, Ill.
