There is an old adage which says, "Never cross a bridge until you come to it;" in other words, Don't borrow trouble. In June, 1902, I came to that bridge, and thanks to God and to His Messenger to this age, that noble woman, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, I have crossed the bridge safely. I was a skeptic as to religion,—an agnostic. I had no use for a God if it was His will and pleasure to take from me my children and my devoted life-companion, a loving wife. The Bible had become to me an obsolete book, and I had not opened its lids for some years. This was my position from a religious standpoint.

Passing through great sorrow and tribulation, I became partially blind and was on the verge of nervous prostration, when the great Comforter came to me,—Christian Science After about two weeks of Science treatment my first great relief was the almost complete healing of insomnia. My healing of a serious ailment of many years' standing, contracted during three years' military service, has been slow, but is now almost complete. My perfect cure of the appetite for intoxicants, of twenty-five years' standing, was a marvelous revelation to me, as I had tried to overcome the habit by my own human will-power many times and had failed; but with all the benefits and help, physically, mentally, and morally, the spiritual uplift far exceeds them all. For over three years I have given much time to an earnest, conscientious study of Christian Science, and I freely acknowledge that I would not part from the spiritual understanding thus attained for all the world contains.

I wish I might find language appropriate to express my gratitude to God, and to that noble woman, Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader, who has given us the true spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures.
